Beat Those Winter Blues...

How can you beat those winter blues you ask??? Well...look forward to the 2014 SPRING Beauty trends!!
Forget that snow (or rain if you live in Florida) and get excited with me about the newest makeup trends for the upcoming season.

Everything's coming up Roses...Or...Well...Orchids!
The color of 2014 is officially named Radiant Orchid! Yes, I'm serious...there really is a color of the year...and you can read all about it here on the Pantone Color Institute webpage.
Talk about the best job ever...someone gets to pick what color will be THE color for an entire year! I want that job!
I  never even knew this was a "thing" until last year when I noticed Emerald Green EVERYWHERE! It was all over the makeup scene (especially emerald green eyeliner and eye shadow), clothing, home decor etc. You name it, I'm sure you could find it in Emerald Green.
Did anyone else notice the Peacock trend everywhere too? There is no coincidence that Peacock was a hot fashion and decor item last year; it displayed the Emerald Green so perfectly (I  loved all the peacock stuff! So pretty!).
This year's color will be no different. I have already seen multiple makeup products rolling out onto the scene with this new color.
I have to say, I do think this color is much easier to pull off makeup wise than Emerald Green. But...be warned, now that you know about Radiant Orchid...you will be noticing this color everywhere!!! But..Sorry I'm not sorry...you are in the KNOW now! ;)

LOOK!!...I even WORE this color to work this week and I didn't even mean to! Radiant Orchid is here ladies!
I must really love this color subconsciously already!
Well, let's get back to makeup shall we? What does Radiant Orchid have to do with Spring 2014 Makeup Trends?

Lips. Cheeks. Eyes.

THAT is where you will be seeing this pretty color this spring (and most likely ALL year)!

Here are a few makeup items I have spied that are popping up with this lovely new color.

Benefit Lollitint in Candy Orchid
No, this is not a nail polish. This is a lip and cheek stain!

How pretty are those pink cheeks and lips?

As you can see in the picture above, you basically draw the pink stain on your cheeks and smudge with your fingers, or a sponge. You can do the same for your lips as well.
You can also see from the photo that you can control the amount of pink you add to your lips or cheeks (No worries of clown makeup! YAY!).
I have not tried this product yet, but as you can probably guess...it has been recently added to my wish list!
This Benefit Lip and Cheek Stain is $30 and is available at Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online. This is also available at other beauty supply websites.
You will look as delicate and fresh as an orchid with cheeks and lips in this pretty pink hue.

Buxom Full-On Lip Tarnish in Wardrobe Malfunction - Candy Pink

Staying true to the Radiant Orchid and pretty pink lips trend, this Buxom lip stain is a great way to get the lip color you want with staying power!
This Lip Stain comes in pencil form, but goes on like a balm and has a nice glossy sheen to it (PLUS...it also has a "plumping" effect that goes on cool and tingly). At $19, this stain would be a great option to carry out the fresh pink lip that is right on trend for spring.
P.S. - This Lip Stain comes in a variety of colors! Many of which fall right into the Radiant Orchid color scheme! Wish List ready ladies!!
This product is available at Sephora stores as well as online.

Stila Custom Color Blush in Sheer Pink
Here is another makeup item to keep up with the Radiant Orchid color of the year. This blush will definitely make your cheeks POP with fresh vibrant color! As a traditional blush, this product is easier to apply than the Benefit Lollitint Stain, and it also packs more pigment power if a bright cheek is what you desire.
This blush is $20 at Sephora stores as well as online.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Orchid Hush

Here is another cheeky option for you if you are interested in following the Radiant Orchid trend. This blush is in a cream form (Don't let that scare you...it goes on just as smooth as a powder and doesn't make you more shiny or oily. You also apply it with your blush brush. Nothing hard or fancy here!).
I have tried this brand of blush before and it works great for the price..only $6-$7! A great bargain item that is following the newest color trend.
This blush is available at Wal-Mart, Target, and other drug stores as well as online.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fishnet
This Urban Decay shadow is perfectly on trend with the Radiant Orchid craze. This eye shadow has a nice pink and purple base with an iridescent shimmer to it. It hits all points of the Radiant Orchid spectrum and will definitely make your eyes stand out this spring. Urban Decay eye products always have great staying power and crease resistance.
Try this color as an alternative to dark purple shadow and wear over your whole eyelid to make it pop.
You can also use this as an eyeliner! Just get an angled eyeliner brush and wet it. Dab on the shadow, and draw under the bottom lash line for a Radiant Orchid jolt of eyeliner fun.
This eyeshadow is $18 and is sold at Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online.

Sephora+Pantone Universe - Jumbo Waterproof Eye Pencil in Shimmering Smoky Lavender
Every year, Sephora teams up with the Pantone Color Institute (The company who determines the color of the year) and creates a line of makeup items that follow the new color.
This eye pencil is no exception. You can use this pencil as an eye shadow, or an eyeliner. This nice pale lavender color is a great place to start playing around with the Radiant Orchid craze if you are a little scared of moving up to the brighter Orchid tones.
I think this pencil would be a great addition to anyone's makeup bag, especially since it's only $10!
This pencil is available only at Sephora stores.

The bottom line of this new 2014 Spring trend is to make your Lips, Cheeks, and Eyes stand out with an array of pinks and purples in this Orchid hue. You don't have to go bold and bright to be following this trend, but you can if you want! You will be seeing TONS of makeup items this spring...and the rest of the year...that fall into this color scheme (Bright nail polish, Purple eyeliners, Fuchsia lipstick, etc). There are definitely more than these few I have mentioned. Feel free to have fun with this color and add it into your wardrobe, home, and especially, MAKEUP!

Other 2014 Spring Makeup Trends to Get Excited About:

1) Matte Makeup
Matte eye shadow and matte blushes are making a comeback this spring.
--- In case you are wondering what "Matte" means...it means flat color with no shine or shimmer. ---

Tarte - Be MATTEnificent Amazonian Colored Matte Eye and Cheek Palatte - $36

This makeup palette sums up the 2014 Spring Matte Makeup Trend to perfection! It has 8 beautiful matte eye shadows (Including a nice pink and purple shade that follow the Radiant Orchid tone), and a peachy pink matte blush.
This palette is available in Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online.

 2) A Pop of Spring Green
Adding a touch of light green shimmer (or matte!) eye shadow, or lining the lower eyelid with a jade or mossy green is huge for springtime this year.
Just a little dab will do ya! This isn't overboard on the green, it's just a hint on or around the eyes to make that spring hue stand out.

Buxom Stay-There Eye Shadow in Gilded Lime Green - $18

NYX Nude Matte Eyeshadow in Covet - $4.99

Nyx Jumbo Shimmer Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese - $4.49

4) Winged Out Eyeliner
I will forever be "winging out" my eye liner. I just can't help myself. I think it works well with my eye shape, but I'm glad to know I will be on trend this spring!
Next time you pull out the liquid liner, extend the outer corners a bit past your eye to "wing" it out. This is always a nice touch when you go out on the town on the weekends or have a party to go to. Try this eye look with a Radiant Orchid Lip (Berry Pink, Fuchsia Pink, or Plum)  instead of traditional red!

Wednesday Wish List

My makeup wish list is always like...a gazillion makeup items long!! I am constantly stalking Sephora online to see what is new and probably add a new product to my wish list every day. Obviously, I will never ever get to try everything on my list (My wallet sheds a tear every time I say..."Sephora")...but...there's no harm in wishing and hoping right?? Maybe I will get to try some of these new items soon and post reviews about them!

For now...here are the makeup items at the top of my wish list (Please comment on this post if you have tried any of these):

Tarte - SmolderEYES Amazonian Clay Eyeliner in Fig
This is the newest item added to my makeup wish list. I confess...I was flipping through the channels Monday night and where did I stop?? QVC!!? AHH!! They sucked me in with these Tarte Amazonian Clay eyeliners!! I have never used any Tarte products before, or any Amazonian Clay products either, but I have to say...this little liner did make a heck of a smokey eye! They were selling this eyeliner in a duo in Bronze and Taupe and it just looked gorgeous on camera. Apparently this pencil liner goes on as a cream and will last for 15 hours...I gotta test that out!
I would love to try this eyeliner in Fig (a dark purple liner) and the brown Bronze color. I have always been a sucker for a purple liner...it just looks amazing with brown, hazel, and green eyes (Sorry blue eyed babes!! But HEY...you have amazing BLUE EYES already!). The Bronze color really made the smokey eye come alive on the QVC models (Brown eyeliners are always a nice choice for any eye color because they aren't as harsh as black).
So... I am keeping my fingers crossed that eventually I can try BOTH colors! They currently sell for $22 each, so I don't know how I could convince my wallet..or my husband to let me buy $44 bucks worth of eyeliner... But my birthday is around the corner.... :)
QVC Link to Taupe and Bronze Eyeliner Duo - On sale for $34.50

Aero Minerale - Hydrating Mineral Primer
I have mentioned this product in my previous Saving Face - Primer Post. I think the reason I want to try this primer so badly is because it's an airbrush in a can - spray on type of primer! How cool!
I have primers that you spritz on your face one pump at a time, but this primer is like a hairspray consistency that you continuously spray on all over your face. This girl is very intrigued!
I have tried the foundation version of this airbrush brand and I loved it. It works great for the lower price point range of airbrush products. This primer is the same price as the foundation ($14.99) at Ulta stores as well as online. I can't wait to get this product off my wish list and into my hands! At $14.99, it will definitely be sooner rather than later! YAY!!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Lip Tar Stained Gloss in Popcicle Pinkish Red
This lip stain has been around for a while, but I never really took a second glance at it until I started using lip stains regularly. Instead of coming in the normal marker form with the felt tip applicator, this lip stain comes in this little tube and you apply it like a lip gloss with the applicator brush. It seems a bit more labor intensive than my usual quick lip stain markers, but it already has the gloss AND stain mixed together. So it actually does save you the step of adding gloss on top.
I have read a lot of reviews online and most women give it a high rating for staying power and ease of use. HOORAY!
They have different kinds of this lip tar that also come in a matte form if you don't like a glossy lip. They also have soooo many colors to choose from (Even a nude gloss color that I'd like to try as well)!
This product is $18 at Sephora stores as well as online. Yes...a little pricey for lip stain. BUT, it does have the stain and gloss mixed together. If it really does last all day like it is suppose to, then this will be one of my new favorite lip products. I can't wait to be able to try this!

Benefit - Fake Up Concealer Stick
The stick obsession strikes AGAIN! And it's another Benefit product at that!
Yes, I do love any kind of makeup that comes in stick form...It just seems so easy and quick to apply when it's presented that way and I always get suckered in.
I am a huge Benefit fan! So far every single product I have tried by this brand has been worth every penny. Yes, they aren't on the cheap side, but they always seem to last and last and help you get your money's worth. This concealer stick is suppose to moisturize, fight against makeup creases, and have real staying power. It has received 4 out of 5 stars on the Sephora.com reviews and I can't wait to add this little number to my makeup bag and do my own review.
Dark circles run in my family (Thanks Dad!!), so I am always looking for a great under eye concealer that covers and stays put! I hope this Benefit Product will match the high quality of it's other makeup family.
I hope to try you out soon awesome concealer stick!!!
This Product is $24 and is available at Sephora and Ulta Stores as well as online.

Kat Von D - Shade Shifter Eyeshadow in Love Letter Purple
I love PURPLE!!! Especially for eye makeup! If you have brown, hazel, or green eyes...You NEED to jump on the purple train!! It is such a great color to use to make your eyes stand out (Green is also a great color for brown or hazel girls).
The thing that caught my attention about this eyeshadow was the name..."Shade Shifter Eyeshadow". Of course I had to look into it and see what that meant! Well...it turns out this eyeshadow has a chameleon-like quality that shifts colors and tones depending on the angle and light you are in.
I'm seriously suckered into this one ladies. I love a nice purple shimmer eyeshadow, but one that has an iridescent shifting color to it!!? SOLD!
How fun would this be to use as an accent shadow in the corners of your eyes or as an all over light catching (and changing) color? I have to try this!
I wish I may...I wish I might...Have this purple eyeshadow delight!

This shadow has received a 4.5 out of 5 stars on Sephora.com for it's high pigmentation and crease resistant formula.
I have used Kat Von D's liquid liner pen, and it works great! I hope this shadow works just as well and lives up to it's Shade Shifting name!
This eyeshadow is...GASP...$16...So it will probably be on my wishlist for a while longer. But, I hope to eventually move it from wish to reality some time in the near future!
This product is available at Sephora Stores as well as online.

Elf Studio - Moisturizing Foundation Stick
I know I know....another STICK makeup product. But this one is only $6!!! And it's a foundation stick! I have used the Maybelline Fit Stick foundation before and I liked the idea of a foundation that I can draw on (surprise!!). I felt that the Maybelline one didn't have a lot of coverage, so I ended up using it more for concealer than a foundation.
I would like to try this ELF product because they have really seemed to step up their makeup game recently and made some awesome high quality products. Plus, you really can't beat the prices.
I am hoping this foundation stick has more full coverage and staying power than the Maybelline foundation. It also says it is moisturizing, so I would like to see if that makes my face more oily, or if it just helps it go on more smoothly. At $6, I will most likely get to try this one out very soon. YAY MAKEUP STEALS!!
This product is available online at Elf.com, or at Target stores!

ELF Studio - Lip Exfoliator
I know this isn't exactly a makeup item, but it does have the potential to help your lips look amazing and make your lipstick go on nice and smooth!
I get horrible dry, flaky lips no matter what season it is. I usually just exfoliate with my toothbrush to help my lips not peel so much and slather on thick chap-stick at night. But sometimes that just isn't enough.
Well HELLO new ELF lip invention!!!
The ELF website says it gently helps exfoliate lips while also moisturizing them. As you can see in the picture above, it looks like it has tiny granules that will help slough off dead skin and keep those lips hydrated and smooth. Sounds too good to be true, but I will have to try it for myself.
This product has received a 4.6 out of 5 stars online and that is with 382 reviews! Pretty impressive!
Again, the price of this product makes it a wish list charts topper...$3!! And it's available at my local Target store! I can't wait to try this and see if it helps my dry lips.

As you can see...this is definitely the short version of my wish list. These are just a few of my newest makeup obsessions that are topping the charts in my book.  If you have tried any of these items, PLEASE let me know what you think!

Happy Wishing Wednesday Lovelies! What are you currently wishing for?

5 Minute Face

We've all been there...short on time, but don't quite have the courage to go out and face the world with a bare face. Let's face it....I look like the Creature from the Black Lagoon before I put my makeup on...
Scary, Right!!??

A beautiful friend and reader, Jessica, suggested I do a 5 Minute Face post of my favorite products that work and help ladies out that are in a beauty time crunch. As a future mother, the realization that I might not have as much time to myself in the mornings to put my face on is rather scary! With Jessica's suggestion I realized I need to brush up on this topic as well! So here are a few of my favorite makeup products and tips that help me when I'm in a pinch.

_______________________

Step 1: BB Cream

Yes.....I have jumped on the BB Cream bandwagon! I don't use BB cream every day, but it is a nice makeup addition for women short on time. BB Cream acts as a moisturizer, primer, and light coverage foundation all rolled up into one easy step. Talk about saving time and money! The only reason I don't use a BB Cream every day is because I like a full coverage foundation (Gotta hide those red marks and under eye circles!). But, when you only have a few minutes to spare, this is a GREAT makeup option that covers half of your routine in one.
Most, if not all of the BB Creams I have seen or tried have a cream/liquid foundation texture to them so you can just squeeze some into your hand and apply it to your face just like a face lotion or primer. This makes for a super easy and simple application which is nice in a time crunch. Another added bonus is that most BB Creams have some level of SPF in them. Some kind of sun defense is always nice to have included in your makeup routine and choosing a BB Cream with SPF already in it, saves you another step.
Since most BB creams have lighter foundation like coverage, you can always add a quick second layer of it under the eyes, or over any trouble areas for a little more coverage.
Overall, using a BB Cream instead of a moisturizer, primer, and foundation really helps speed up your makeup process, especially when you only have 5 minutes!

Here are a few BB Creams that I have used and recommend:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream with SPF 35
Yes, another Smashbox RAVE! This is seriously the BEST BB Cream I have ever used! It gives WAY better coverage foundation wise than most BB Creams I have tried. Also, you get the awesome benefits of their amazing primers and foundations in one tube! You can wear this under your makeup as a primer/moisturizer, but I usually keep it around for those days when I am going lighter on the makeup. This product definitely helps keep my oily skin in check as well and saves me TIME when I'm rushing through my routine.
Again, Smashbox is on the expensive side ($39 for a 1oz tube), but....like I said before, you get what you pay for. This is definitely a nice investment for mom's or ladies on the go who want a little more foundation coverage but also are in need of something quick to help speed the makeup process. The fact that it keeps oil at bay is also a PLUS for this cream. It also comes in a variety of colors, so you will be able to find the one that matches your skin tone best without too much effort. If you feel a 1oz tube is too large for you, or you just want to test it out, Sephora has a travel 0.5oz size available for $19.50. This product is sold in stores at Sephora and Ulta as well as online. It is also available on Smashbox's website and other beauty websites as well.

Rimmel BB Cream Beauty Balm with SPF 25

Of course, you know I love a good bargain! Especially on makeup! At $6-$7, this Rimmel BB Cream is also a good choice to have in your makeup bag. The foundation coverage is lighter than the Smashbox brand, but...if you want a little more, just add another dab in your palm and add a second layer of this cream (at $6, you don't have to worry about using it up too quickly). This product also works pretty well at controlling oil. I find that I am a little on the "shiny" side by the afternoon if this is the only sort of foundation/primer I am wearing, but it's nothing a quick blot with a napkin or paper towel can't get rid of.
This BB Cream doesn't have as many varieties as far as colors go, like the Smashbox brand does, but at the price point, I can't complain. It does has 25 SPF coverage added in AND it works as a nice moisturizer too, which is a PLUS. I have tried other drug store brand BB Creams like Maybelline, NYC, and Loreal, but they didn't seem to control my oil or give me any coverage at all. This product is definitely a great bargain BB Cream that works! It is sold in Wal-Mart, Target, other drug stores as well as online beauty supply sites.

Step 2: Oil Absorbing Powder

I don't think I have ever walked out of my house without some kind of powder on. Even if I don't have any time to put on a full face, I always put on some kind of oil absorbing powder so I'm not blinding people with my oil shiny-ness!
Adding a light dusting of oil absorbing powder on top of your BB Cream will help set the cream, AND helps keep the oil at bay. Plus, using a little powder always adds a nice finishing touch to your foundation routine. You can't afford to skip this step, even with only 5 minutes to spare. I think it will only take about a whole 7 seconds to completely apply the powder, so the "I won't have time" argument really doesn't apply here.

Here is the ONLY powder I use and recommend:

Ben Nye Luxury Powder in Banana
Yep, you read that right! This is the ONLY powder I use and recommend! This has seriously been one of the best makeup finds for my oily skin and I will never use another kind of powder AGAIN! I have gotten my sister, mother, and a few friends to start using it and they are complete believers in this magic powder!
Not only does this powder set your makeup ALL day, but it seriously soaks up the oil! PLUS, you only have to use a tiny bit to cover your whole face! I have had the same 1.5oz shaker (As pictured above) of this powder since June and you know what!!??? It's not even halfway GONE! And I swear on my life I use this powder every day! I have never used such an awesome makeup setting and oil absorbing powder EVER, and I will continue to sing it's praises for ever and ever AMEN!
OH...and you want to know the BEST part??! As if what I said before wasn't awesome enough, this powder is only...drumroll please....$10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know...I know...Is it really only $10!!?? Yep!! Sure is!!! $10 for the 1.5oz shaker that has lasted me for 8 months already. The only draw back is that I haven't found a store that carries it in my area... so far only online suppliers have it. But...It is so worth it! Seriously a life changing powder for my skin!! This "banana" color is very translucent and works with a lot of skin tones, but they do offer other colors as well!

Step 3: Bronzer/Blush

I have always loved my blushes and bronzers...Probably a little too much while growing up.  However, they add so much definition to your face! I feel like I look like a white ghost without some sort of color on my cheeks! Even if you are super short on time, a little brush of blush or bronzer makes you look more awake and HEALTHY!!! Who wants to look like a sickly white ghost!?? Not me! That's why I always make sure I have at least 15 seconds for some color on my cheeks and face!
Since this is a 5 Minute Face Post, here are a few tips to make the most out of your blush/bronzer and save time.

1) Apply your favorite blush/bronzer in circluar motions (Going up toward the eye and out toward the hairline and back toward the nose) to the apples of your cheeks, as well as the cheekbones If you don't know how to find where to apply the color, just do the ole "fish face". That's right, suck in those cheeks and lips and apply your blush or bronzer to the now more prominent cheek area. I seriously do this face every morning when I apply my blush!
2) Do a quick brush of your blush/bronzer over your forehead, bridge of your nose, chin, and eyelids. This will add more dimension to your face in a flash! It will also help make your face not look so flat (And pale in my case!)
3) You can dust a little more over your eyelids for more of an eyeshadow look to help make your eyes pop! Or you can add it just in the outer corners of your eyelid for some contrast!
4) Don't over do it! We want to have a nice flush, not clown makeup! If you think it's a little too much, just brush some powder over the top to tone it down.

Here are a few Blushes & Bronzers that I keep in my makeup stash:

Nars Bronzer in Laguna
I'm a big Nars fan...I love this bronzer! The color suits my skin perfectly without being too orange or brown. It is pretty matte with no shimmer, so it is nice to layer under your favorite blush, or use alone. I use this to contour my face and make those cheekbones stand out (But that is a whole post on it's own). Although it is $36 for this bronzer, they definitely don't skimp on the size. It was A LOT bigger than I thought it would be. It's almost the size of my palm! If you are looking for a high quality bronzer item to invest in (I seriously don't know if I will EVER use it all up) this is a great choice!
This Bronzer is available at Sephora Stores as well as online. This item is also available at other online beauty supply websites.

Rimmel Natural Bronzer in Sunbreeze

Here is a bargain bronzer that is extremely similar to the Nars brand... AND it's at a fraction of the cost! I actually used this bronzer up and just decided to try the Nars brand next out of makeup curiosity. It really is a great selection in the bronzer department! It is also a matte, tan color with no shimmer just like the Nars brand. They have other lighter or darker colors in this brand, as well as ones with a little shimmer added to give you a nice light catching summer glow. This is a wonderful product to start with if you have never used bronzing powders or would just like to try something new. At $4-$5, this is a very affordable makeup option for any budget. This Bronzer is available at Wal-Mart, Target, and Ulta Stores as well as online beauty supply websites.
Wal-Mart Link to Product

L'Oreal True Match Blush in Rosy Outlook
I think I probably have close to 50 blushes in my makeup stash...SAD and SCARY...I know!! But the one I have used the most for the past few years in this little blushy number. This Rosy blush goes on a little lighter than it looks here, but it does carry enough pigment to get the job done in one swipe with my makeup brush. This is also another makeup steal because it is only $6-$7 BUCKS! WINNER! If you are a blush maniac like me....it's nice to be able to try new products and not break the bank! I like to switch my colors up for all the seasons, and at this price point, you can do that! This blush is available at Wal-Mart, Target, Ulta and other Drug stores as well as online. This is also available on other beauty supply websites.
Walmart Link to Product

Covergirl Blush in Pretty Peach
I'm telling you...I don't like to spend a fortune on my makeup. Yes, I do like to save up for a nice investment makeup item, but mostly I like to be able to try new products and feel like it's okay to throw them out if I hate them. If I spend $30 on something, I will be using it up! Even if I hate it haha! This little blush however, is also an old stand by. Who hasn't used Covergirl makeup in their lifetime?? I think it was some of the first makeup I ever used. This soft peachy blush is a nice addition to my blush collection. It has a light peach color that helps my cheeks stand out, but it doesn't make them look clownish! Covergirl blush tends to have a little "perfume-y" smell to them, so if scents are an issue, stay away from this product.
This item is a matte blush, so there is no shimmer to it. Covergirl has about 20 different colors with or without shimmer to fulfill your every blush desire. At $3-$4...feel free to buy more than one! ;)
This blush can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Target, Ulta, and other Drug stores as well as online. It is also carried by other online beauty supply websites.

Step 4: Highlighter

I can't emphasize this step enough...Highlighting makes your face come ALIVE! Especially if you are really short on time, this step is SO important! Adding light catching highlighter makes your face brighter, and hey...more AWAKE! Doesn't every mom and lady on the go want that? I know I do!
In the previous "White Hot" post, I have already gone in to more detail about the importance of highlighting and some areas to add to your highlighting routine. Below is a picture of yours truly, showing you where I highlight my face every day. We are talking about a light highlight, not full on shimmer streaks all over your face lol! Remember you have to blend it in, so it subtly brings attention to the areas you want noticed.

Even though this might look like a lot of areas to highlight...it really is rather simple and easy to do. It also doesn't take much time and is a great way to make your 5 Minute Face Makeup Routine look polished, vibrant, and fresh (And it looks like you took longer than 5 minutes too!!).

*** Another highlighting tip I would add is....since you aren't doing a full face of makeup, swipe your highlighter over your eyelids too. That way you can get a little eyeshadow action without actually adding eyeshadow! Remember, you can also add that bronzer in the outer corners of your eyelid for some dimension and contrast too!

Here are a few of my favorite highlighters that I recommend:

Benefit Watt's Up Highlighting Stick
I have posted previously on how much I LOVE this highlighting stick (See White Hot Post  Here). This highlighter is perfect for literally drawing where you want to highlight on your face. It also has a nice shimmer to it that works nicely for a "fake eyeshadow" when you are in a time crunch.
$30 for this long lasting highlighter stick at Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online and sold on online beauty supply websites.

Stila All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten
This highlighter has been a very recent addition to my makeup bag, and I am loving it! If you love a highlighter that shimmers and is in powder form...this is for YOU! Plus, there are two different colors to choose from in this compact for highlighting perfection. The color on the left is a light pink shimmer, and the color on the right is a darker beige shimmer (The darker beige has just a slight bronze tone to it, great for the cheekbones!). I love having both colors to choose from. Some days I feel like a little light shimmer will do the trick and I go with the light pink. Other days I want a little extra bronze sheen and go with the light beige color. This Duo is also great when you are trying to highlight and finsih your makeup routine in 5 minutes because you can use this powder as eyeshadow too. Some days I do use this as my eyeshadow! Even when I have more than 5 minutes to spare. I prefer to use a fan brush with this highlighter (pictured below). Using a fan brush helps you add just the perfect dusting of highlighter (especially on the cheeks). Check out this one from ELF for $1!
Fan Brush by ELF - $1 Link to Elf (Also available at Target)

Overall, this product just has such a nice subtle shimmer to it that isn't over powering on your face or eyes. I highly recommend this one girls!!
This product is $22 and is available at Sephora or Ulta stores as well as online. It is also available online through multiple beauty supple websites.

ELF All Over Color Stick in Toasted
I've already confessed how much I love any kind of makeup that comes in stick form...well this highlighter is no exception! THIS Elf highlighting stick is a great (AND CHEAP) alternative to the Watt's Up Benefit highlighter I wrote about earlier. This stick is a whopping....$1!!!! Yep..you read it right... A BUCK!
This highlighter is a little thicker when it is applied, so you might have to smudge and blend more than with other stick highlighters. But for only $1, it is a great place to start and practice with if you are new to highlighting, or using stick makeup products. If you only use it one time, it has already paid for itself! Definitely a bargain when it comes to a highlighting item!
This product is available at Target stores, and the ELF website (ELF stands for Eyes, Lips, Face) and other beauty supply websites.

Step 5: Mascara

I am totally a mascara girl! If there was only one makeup item that I could use for the rest of my life...it would have to be mascara!! I feel like my makeup look is complete once I use that magic mascara wand.
That is why your 5 minute face look cannot be complete without this step! Mascara really accentuates your eyes and makes them stand out. I feel like you can't even see my eyeballs without my mascara on!
When you start to apply your mascara, make sure you start at the base of your lashes, and then spin your wand upward so it grabs and covers all of your lashes evenly.
Every girl has a different preference for her mascara coverage. Some girls like it thick, some want just one coat. It really is up to you, unless you like tarantula eyes...which is a big fat NO! Don't do it ladies!!
Since we are doing a quick 5 minute face here, you might want to at least try 2 coats of mascara to give the illusion of eyeliner....Even though we haven't added in that step for this 5 minute face. Also, the closer you put your mascara on to the base of your lashes, the more "eyeliner-ish" it looks! SCORE!

Here is the current brand of Mascara that I am using:

Revlon Lash Potion Mascara
The recommendation for this mascara came from my best friend Carissa. I noticed her eyelashes we SO long one day and I asked her what she had used (We are forever talking about new makeup items and she has SUCH an amazing eye for makeup and an awesome knack for finding great new products!). I was a die hard Smashbox Full Exposure/Benefit Yes They're Real user for a while, and I honestly didn't believe that this little ole Revlon mascara could be as good. Well HELLO awesome new mascara and money in my wallet! At $5, this makeup find is definitely worth it (Compared to Smashbox - $19.50 / Benefit $26). Don't get me wrong, I still love those other brands to death! But my wallet loves this Revlon one WAY more. It doesn't hurt that it actually WORKS! I do like that this mascara helps separate my lashes, and also lengthens them. I certainly recommend this makeup item!
This mascara is available at Wal-Mart, Target, and other drug stores as well as online and on other beauty supply websites.

Step 6: Lip Protection

The final step before you rush out the door has to be some sort of lip protection (Chap-stick, lipstick, lip gloss, lip stain, etc). My personal choice is lip stain and a light lip gloss to go on top of it. Adding just a bit of gloss or even chapstick helps your lips look more healthy and keeps that dry flaky skin from appearing. You don't have to go full red lip here, just a clear gloss or nude lipstick can help finish your look (and it only takes a few seconds!). Even better, pack your favorite lip item in your purse and apply it on the go (not while you are driving though!!).

My Favorite Lip Item Recommendations:

NYC Lipstain

If you are looking for a lip product that will last all day and not have the thick feel (and taste) of lipstick, you should try a lip stain! I am loving lip stains right now because they last at least 4 hours with no touch ups. This NYC brand is great because the color goes on a little lighter than it looks, but it still lasts for hours. Plus it has a nice light fruity smell and taste that isn't overpowering like lipstick. As you can see in the picture above, they have many different shades (Including a nude lip color too!). The application is super simple, it is just like drawing on your lips with a fruit flavored marker! YUM! These stains have a nice soft felt tip that make it easy to apply.
This NYC Lip Stain Product runs around $5! Another beauty SCORE!!
These are available at Wal-Mart, Target, and other drug stores as well as online.

ELF Hypershine Lip Gloss

I love to add a little gloss over my lip stain to help maintain my lip color as well as keep my lips hydrated. Plus the added shine or shimmer is also nice! I love these Elf lip glosses because they are SO cheap - hello $1!!!! And they aren't too sticky or gooey on the lips. I hate when I put on a lip gloss and it feels like a fly trap! YUCK! Elf has numerous colors and shimmers for you to choose from, including a clear light pink gloss if color or shimmer isn't for you. I also like that these glosses don't have any smell or taste to them. I hate to mix lip items and have a weird taste on my lips. I end up wiping it off before I even get out of the house. at $1, these are great to stash in your makeup bag, purse, car, diaper bag, you name it! Nothing helps pull of the 5 Minute Face look like fresh hydrated lips!!
These Lip Glosses are available at Target stores, and the ELF website.

ThrowBack Thursday - White Hot

I hate to admit it...But I am one of the guilty ones who wore....GASP...WHITE EYELINER in Jr. High and High School....(Hides head in shame).

I know I know...I was young...It was cool at the time. But in all honesty, boy did it look ridiculous!!!

The harsh white streak across the top of my eyelid wasn't flattering at all. It made my brown eyes just disappear! Looking back at pictures from that era, my eye goes directly to the eyeliner.... not my face, not my outfit, not even my eyes! Just the horrid...stark white streak across my eyelid. Terrible!! But hey...we all live and learn and hopefully move on to more subtle eyeliner right?

Now that I have confessed one of my many makeup digressions, it's time to get back to the point. Since this is a throwback Thursday post about bad white eyeliner, how about we try to bring it up to 2014. "AHhhh WHAT!!??" you say? Bring back white eyeliner after I just dissed it? Well...in a way, YES!

Does this stick take you back??

There are actually many ways to use white eyeliner to our advantage instead of just bluntly drawing a white streaky line across our eyelids. Here are a few suggestions:

  • It doesn't have to be STARK white. Try using a light champagne or pale pink shimmery colored eyeliner, eye shadow, or highlighter stick instead. Plain white is usually pretty bold for most skin types, but adding a bit of shimmer to white, or other light colors helps it blend better, makes it more subtle, and helps catch the light!
New Updated Version of "White Liner" - Rimmel London Brand in Bullet Proof Beige

  • Use the white eyeliner as a highlighting tool, NOT actual eyeliner. White (or any other light colored eyeliner/eye shadow/highlighting stick) is a great way to make your eyes stand out, but you need to make sure you highlight the right areas and SMUDGE smudge SMUDGE so it doesn't look so bold.  The whole reason for highlighting is to HIGHLIGHT areas you want people to see, or create the illusion of something you want people to see! --- Option 1). Draw a line directly underneath your eyebrow and gently smudge the line (until it doesn't look like you drew a line..kind of an oxymoron, but remember we are just highlighting here, not eye lining!). --- Option 2). You can also use the light colored liner to highlight the corners and bottom lid of your eyes. Draw a line under the bottom lash line and in the corners of your eyes and then smudge. Adding just a subtle bit of light catching highlighter to these areas can make you look more awake and bright eyed! Not to mention highlighting under the brow can give you an instant (And painless) brow lift! Let the makeup do it's job ladies!!
How stunning do her eyes look with a touch of white/champagne colored highlighter in the corners and under the brow? She looks so awake and fresh!
  • Line the INSIDE of your eyelids with white liner, not the outside. If you are really looking for a way to make your eyes POP, you can pull out that exact same white eyeliner that you used in 8th grade and use it to line the inside of your eyelids (Especially the bottom, AKA the "Waterline"). Adding a pop of white right next to your eyes makes them appear larger (so I wouldn't recommend this step if you feel you already have larger eyes, or have a hard time using liner....as this requires a steady hand since it's so close to your eyeball).
Add the pop of white liner in the right place! Notice how the white on the waterline picks up the white of her eye and make it appear larger?
  • Always use the white liner BEFORE applying the rest of your eye makeup. We want the white/light colored liner to help make our eyes shine brighter and look bigger... not take over the whole face (like mine did back in the day)! A little goes a long way when highlighting/lining around the eyes with lighter colors. Make it an addition to your makeup routine, not the focus.
  • Use the white liner to highlight other areas of your face, not just the eyes. Want to highlight those gorgeous lips of yours? Try using your white eyeliner or other highlighter to accentuate the "Cupids Bow" area of your lips. The Cupid's Bow is where your top lip meets and creates the "V" in the middle (See Picture below). Outline the Cupid's bow area with the white liner or highlighter and then smudge. Highlighting this area helps create the illusion of fuller lips because it picks up the light and draws the eye to that pretty pout! It's also a great way to keep lipstick or gloss from moving out of the lip zone!
Highlight the "V" or "Cupid's Bow" to make those lips pop!

Here are a few "updated" versions of white eyeliner that I use to enhance my eyes/lips and make them POP!

Rimmel London Scandaleyes Eyeshadow Stick in Bullet Proof Beige
This shadow stick is a great highlighter for the eye area and cupids bow! It draws a nice smooth line and allows for easy smudging and has a nice shimmer to it. Perfect for the corners of the eye and under the brow! The price is also amazing! It runs for about $4-$5 and is available at Wal-Mart, Target, drugstores and even Ulta! This product also comes in WHITE, if that is the color you think works best for you. The white stick would work great if you want to try and line your inner lids because it is a soft eyeshadow pencil and won't tug on your eyelid.

Benefit Watt's Up! Highlighter Stick
This is one of my favorite all over highlighting tools. This light champagne shimmer is just the PERFECT color to pick up the light and brighten your face. I use this around the eyes, brows, down the bridge of my nose, cheekbones, cupids bow, and chin! It's not thick, or too heavy to use all over your face. It's so fun to draw it on and see how much it really adds to your makeup. This product also has a handy dandy little smudger right on the bottom! How cool is that!? This highlighter is on the expensive side (Cost: $30). But I feel like it is a wonderful makeup investment since it lasts forever. I still haven't used up my first stick (I've had it for a year) and I use it every day! Sephora and Ulta both carry this product in their stores and online and many other internet beauty websites carry it as well.

Rimmel London Soft Kohl Eyeliner Pencil in Pure White
If you are looking for a cheap and reliable version of your Jr. High white eyeliner...this is it! At $3-$4 this is an affordable way to play around with the tips I've given in this post. This is a great product to line the inner lids with, or accent the cupids bow area. It doesn't have any type of sheen or shimmer to it, so it will come out exactly as it did when we used it WRONG! Pure.. Stark.. White! So keep that in mind. This product also comes in a nude color if white is too scary to start with. You could use the nude liner to practice with and see if you like the feel of it and then move on from there.  This liner is available at Wal-Mart, Target, and other drug stores.

Maybelline EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Branded
If using pencil liner or drawing lines on your face isn't really your thing, then this is a great product for you! This cream shadow allows you to use your finger to apply it to wherever you would like to highlight. I would say it is best used for the corners of the eye and brow area (Or as an all over eyeshadow). You will definitely have more control with the smudging since you will be applying it with your finger. If you like to use makeup brushes, you could apply this under the bottom lash line, or under your brow with an angled eyeliner brush.
Angled Eye Liner Brush by ELF - $3 ELF link to Product (Also sold at Target!)
At $5-$6, this is also a makeup steal! This champagne color flatters most skin tones and I think you are never too old for a little shimmer!! Remember: Shimmer picks up the light and makes you look more youthful, brighter, and FRESH! I'm not talking about glitter...glitter either puts you in the "I'm a 12 year old girl and am allowed to wear glitter everywhere" category, or the Peter Pan "I'm never growing up" category. The latter is NOT so flattering, LOL! I love sparkly stuff....Even glitter..But it shouldn't be stuck all over your eyes and face if you are over 12 (Sorry... Rant Over!!!). This amazing eyeshadow cream is sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Ulta, and other online beauty websites!

The bottom line(r) is..White is still HOT! Just use an updated version of this old makeup mistake! Use it to your advantage and highlight (Although this isn't the only way to highlight, it is easy! Stay tuned for a full highlighting and contouring post.)! Remember, don't take away from your beautiful face... enhance what you want people to notice! If you are unsure if a new makeup technique is for you, it's only makeup! It wipes off! Start with an inexpensive makeup item and if you like it, try other products! Ladies, please learn from my ThrowBack Thursday White Liner Mistake! Make your eyes pop the right way!

Happy Highlighting Lovelies!
