Beat Those Winter Blues...

How can you beat those winter blues you ask??? Well...look forward to the 2014 SPRING Beauty trends!!
Forget that snow (or rain if you live in Florida) and get excited with me about the newest makeup trends for the upcoming season.

Everything's coming up Roses...Or...Well...Orchids!
The color of 2014 is officially named Radiant Orchid! Yes, I'm serious...there really is a color of the year...and you can read all about it here on the Pantone Color Institute webpage.
Talk about the best job ever...someone gets to pick what color will be THE color for an entire year! I want that job!
I  never even knew this was a "thing" until last year when I noticed Emerald Green EVERYWHERE! It was all over the makeup scene (especially emerald green eyeliner and eye shadow), clothing, home decor etc. You name it, I'm sure you could find it in Emerald Green.
Did anyone else notice the Peacock trend everywhere too? There is no coincidence that Peacock was a hot fashion and decor item last year; it displayed the Emerald Green so perfectly (I  loved all the peacock stuff! So pretty!).
This year's color will be no different. I have already seen multiple makeup products rolling out onto the scene with this new color.
I have to say, I do think this color is much easier to pull off makeup wise than Emerald Green. But...be warned, now that you know about Radiant Orchid...you will be noticing this color everywhere!!! But..Sorry I'm not sorry...you are in the KNOW now! ;)

LOOK!!...I even WORE this color to work this week and I didn't even mean to! Radiant Orchid is here ladies!
I must really love this color subconsciously already!
Well, let's get back to makeup shall we? What does Radiant Orchid have to do with Spring 2014 Makeup Trends?

Lips. Cheeks. Eyes.

THAT is where you will be seeing this pretty color this spring (and most likely ALL year)!

Here are a few makeup items I have spied that are popping up with this lovely new color.

Benefit Lollitint in Candy Orchid
No, this is not a nail polish. This is a lip and cheek stain!

How pretty are those pink cheeks and lips?

As you can see in the picture above, you basically draw the pink stain on your cheeks and smudge with your fingers, or a sponge. You can do the same for your lips as well.
You can also see from the photo that you can control the amount of pink you add to your lips or cheeks (No worries of clown makeup! YAY!).
I have not tried this product yet, but as you can probably guess...it has been recently added to my wish list!
This Benefit Lip and Cheek Stain is $30 and is available at Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online. This is also available at other beauty supply websites.
You will look as delicate and fresh as an orchid with cheeks and lips in this pretty pink hue.

Buxom Full-On Lip Tarnish in Wardrobe Malfunction - Candy Pink

Staying true to the Radiant Orchid and pretty pink lips trend, this Buxom lip stain is a great way to get the lip color you want with staying power!
This Lip Stain comes in pencil form, but goes on like a balm and has a nice glossy sheen to it (PLUS...it also has a "plumping" effect that goes on cool and tingly). At $19, this stain would be a great option to carry out the fresh pink lip that is right on trend for spring.
P.S. - This Lip Stain comes in a variety of colors! Many of which fall right into the Radiant Orchid color scheme! Wish List ready ladies!!
This product is available at Sephora stores as well as online.

Stila Custom Color Blush in Sheer Pink
Here is another makeup item to keep up with the Radiant Orchid color of the year. This blush will definitely make your cheeks POP with fresh vibrant color! As a traditional blush, this product is easier to apply than the Benefit Lollitint Stain, and it also packs more pigment power if a bright cheek is what you desire.
This blush is $20 at Sephora stores as well as online.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Orchid Hush

Here is another cheeky option for you if you are interested in following the Radiant Orchid trend. This blush is in a cream form (Don't let that scare you...it goes on just as smooth as a powder and doesn't make you more shiny or oily. You also apply it with your blush brush. Nothing hard or fancy here!).
I have tried this brand of blush before and it works great for the price..only $6-$7! A great bargain item that is following the newest color trend.
This blush is available at Wal-Mart, Target, and other drug stores as well as online.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Fishnet
This Urban Decay shadow is perfectly on trend with the Radiant Orchid craze. This eye shadow has a nice pink and purple base with an iridescent shimmer to it. It hits all points of the Radiant Orchid spectrum and will definitely make your eyes stand out this spring. Urban Decay eye products always have great staying power and crease resistance.
Try this color as an alternative to dark purple shadow and wear over your whole eyelid to make it pop.
You can also use this as an eyeliner! Just get an angled eyeliner brush and wet it. Dab on the shadow, and draw under the bottom lash line for a Radiant Orchid jolt of eyeliner fun.
This eyeshadow is $18 and is sold at Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online.

Sephora+Pantone Universe - Jumbo Waterproof Eye Pencil in Shimmering Smoky Lavender
Every year, Sephora teams up with the Pantone Color Institute (The company who determines the color of the year) and creates a line of makeup items that follow the new color.
This eye pencil is no exception. You can use this pencil as an eye shadow, or an eyeliner. This nice pale lavender color is a great place to start playing around with the Radiant Orchid craze if you are a little scared of moving up to the brighter Orchid tones.
I think this pencil would be a great addition to anyone's makeup bag, especially since it's only $10!
This pencil is available only at Sephora stores.

The bottom line of this new 2014 Spring trend is to make your Lips, Cheeks, and Eyes stand out with an array of pinks and purples in this Orchid hue. You don't have to go bold and bright to be following this trend, but you can if you want! You will be seeing TONS of makeup items this spring...and the rest of the year...that fall into this color scheme (Bright nail polish, Purple eyeliners, Fuchsia lipstick, etc). There are definitely more than these few I have mentioned. Feel free to have fun with this color and add it into your wardrobe, home, and especially, MAKEUP!

Other 2014 Spring Makeup Trends to Get Excited About:

1) Matte Makeup
Matte eye shadow and matte blushes are making a comeback this spring.
--- In case you are wondering what "Matte" means...it means flat color with no shine or shimmer. ---

Tarte - Be MATTEnificent Amazonian Colored Matte Eye and Cheek Palatte - $36

This makeup palette sums up the 2014 Spring Matte Makeup Trend to perfection! It has 8 beautiful matte eye shadows (Including a nice pink and purple shade that follow the Radiant Orchid tone), and a peachy pink matte blush.
This palette is available in Sephora and Ulta stores as well as online.

 2) A Pop of Spring Green
Adding a touch of light green shimmer (or matte!) eye shadow, or lining the lower eyelid with a jade or mossy green is huge for springtime this year.
Just a little dab will do ya! This isn't overboard on the green, it's just a hint on or around the eyes to make that spring hue stand out.

4) Winged Out Eyeliner
I will forever be "winging out" my eye liner. I just can't help myself. I think it works well with my eye shape, but I'm glad to know I will be on trend this spring!
Next time you pull out the liquid liner, extend the outer corners a bit past your eye to "wing" it out. This is always a nice touch when you go out on the town on the weekends or have a party to go to. Try this eye look with a Radiant Orchid Lip (Berry Pink, Fuchsia Pink, or Plum)  instead of traditional red!
