2015 - 1st Quarter Faves

I am SO sorry that I haven't posted a "Favorites" video since....eeeekkk...December!!!

How is it almost MAY and I haven't gotten my faves together for you!??

Well...You can all rest assured that I have had plenty of time to find some new products for you that I am LOVING!!!

Some might be old news to you, some might be NEW...But check out my latest Video to see what I have been using like crazy recently!

Products Mentioned:

Here is a picture of my nails using these fun embellishments!!

*Side Note: Even though the Jergens Natural Glow is a gradual tanning lotion, you should still exfoliate your body before you do the 1st application! It helps the tan develop more evenly and last longer (in my experience). My tan usually lasts about 3 weeks with no fading or dry patch build up. At the 3 week mark I scrub scrub scrub and start over so I can have a nice glow again!

I would love to know what some of your current favorites are!
It can be anything!
Food, Makeup, Books, Etc.!

Kiss or Diss??

There are thousands upon thousands of makeup and beauty items out there...

Like literally Tens of Thousands!!!
Maybe More...

So how do we know which ones are worth the money, and which ones are not!?

>Insert Fairy Godmother Wand Here.<

Ehhh Hemmmm...

Manic Makeup Girl is Here to help you navigate which high end products are worth the splurge and which ones are NOT!

I will be doing a new collection of posts to show you which products I think you should either

So... First up on the List...

I know.
$20 for a little makeup sponge?!?

Just hear me out.

It has taken me years to finally fall into the hype of this little sponge. I was thinking that there was NO way on EARTH that this thing could be better than other generic makeup sponges that I had used.

I was SO. Wrong.

Seriously, this thing has transformed my makeup routine!
My foundation application has never looked more natural AND Flawless.
And all because of a little sponge!?

The best thing about this sponge is that when you get it wet, it becomes SO soft and bouncy! Absolutely perfect for applying foundation!
My other sponges were never ever this soft!
PLUS, you can use this sponge with liquid, cream, or powder products!
I use my Beauty Blender to apply my liquid foundation,  under eye concealer, highlighter, setting powder, blush, and even....BRONZER!

YES! You can contour with this baby! And I use it for that EVERY DAY and have put my other makeup brushes in the drawer!

I literally use it for everything except my eye makeup!

That makes it well worth the $20 in my book! And how is that not perfect for travel!??

Did you see me use it in my Cream Contour Tutorial in this past post HERE? It makes blending out your contour and highlighting a BREEZE! I wouldn't even attempt to do cream contouring without this Beauty Blender Sponge! --- That's how much I LOVE IT!

This is a serious

In my book!!!

So...Since the Beauty Blender is worth the splurge...Is the cleanser?
Simply put: YES!
It really is!
Now don't get me wrong.... Dish soap will work, but it just takes a lot more work to get all the makeup residue off (I actually can't get ALL the makeup off with just dish soap).
I feel like this cleanser really just SUCKS the makeup right out of the sponge!
It only takes seconds...Literally SECONDS to make your Beauty Blender look brand new again!

Watch this short video of me washing my super dirty Beauty Blender with the Beauty Blender Solid Cleanser!
See the Results for yourself!

I wash my Beauty Blender every other day because this stuff is so good! I never ever washed my sponges this much before because it was such a pain!
I still pop it in the microwave to kill any bacteria (from this post). But I love this cleanser SO much that I only use this for my Beauty Blender. You can use this to clean your makeup brushes as well, but I still use the vinegar/dish soap mixture mainly for my brushes because it works so well and it's CHEAP! See my post HERE. I am just a cheapo sometimes and want to make sure this cleanser lasts a long time for my little Beauty Blender!
The solid cleanser is like an awesome little round bar of soap and you use so little of it each wash for your BB, that I know it will last quite a long time!
Since it saves me so much time AND really works, it's...

Definitely KISS Status Here!

You all know I LOVE my Smashbox stuff.
They are one of my all time favorite brands!
Their regular Photo Finish Foundation Primer is my holy grail face primer!! (See my post here).

When I heard about this new Primer Water that was suppose to do the same priming effects as my other Smashbox primer but ALSO moisturize, AND act as a makeup setting spray...I had to have it!!!
Like as soon as it came out, I got it!
I read reviews online from people who got to try it prior to it's public release and everyone raved about it!
I was like..YES!!!! This stuff if going to be so awesome! It will be a face primer AND makeup setting spray so I can use 1 product for 2 things....

Sadly...I was mistaken.

It literally pains my heart to say anything bad about Smashbox...I love them dearly!

But this stuff....was....very...very...disappointing.

Did it act as a face primer? --- NO. ZERO priming effects.
Did it keep my face from getting oily? --- NOPE. It made me MORE oily!!!
Did it set my makeup? HECK NO! It basically made it slide off my face.
Did it moisturize? YES! Too much!

I used this stuff for a straight week in different combos (Just as a primer before makeup...Alone as a setting spray...Just as my moisturizer...WITH my other face primers) and it failed miserably on every one.

The only good thing about this stuff was that it smelled nice!

Sad. Day.

Now...If you are prone to very dry skin, this might be awesome for you! But my Oily/Combination skin rejected it like the plague!! It wanted nothing to do with it!

To really explain to you how oily this made my face....
It was like high school all over again.

So in my makeup book...I will never repurchase or even use this AGAIN.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream - $29
I've always been a BareMinerals fan.
I love their loose pigment eyeshadow (Because they LITERALLY last forever...I can never use one up) their liquid highlighter, eyeliner, and their Lash Domination Mascara.
So when I heard that they were coming out with a Hydrating Cream that was on the BB/CC side of things.
I jumped on the bandwagon and bought this stuff ASAP!

Now...As it was explained to me...This stuff was suppose to be able to be worn as a light foundation. The coverage is said to be between light to medium but very buildable to be able to customized.
This is a revolutionary new hydrating BB/CC cream that has the water molecules surrounding the pigment so water is the 1st thing that touches your skin, not the pigment. Other creams are the opposite.
I was intrigued by this new "revolutionary" formula and thought, "WOW! This could be awesome for spring and summer when I don't want to wear a lot of makeup and need some extra hydration!".
The reviews for this stuff were AWESOME! Everyone said they loved the new formula and that their skin tone seemed more even and more moisturized.
Here are my thoughts....

Does it hydrate? --- YES! But..A little too much for my liking. It felt almost a little sticky to me. (I HATE sticky things)
Did it conceal? --- NO! I felt like I was literally just slathering on face lotion...It was very very sheer and yes it's buildable, but to even get medium coverage (where I would still have to use concealer) it took 3 applications! A little wasteful if you ask me!
Did I see any added skin benefits? --- NO! Very sad to say it acted just like a plain face lotion for me. Yes, it has a very sheer tint AND SPF that would be perfect for beach days...but...I'm only at the beach maybe 3 days a year. (A sin since I live in Florida, I know!)

I tried this cream alone, I tried applying it 3 times on top of each other and it never gave me any kind of real coverage. Since it has SPF in it and it's a water based formula it always looked rather shiny on me (And you know I don't like Shine!).
I also tried it under my foundation just as a moisturizer and it made my skin more oily throughout the day.

I am literally only going to keep this stuff for when I will be out in the sun and want some extra skin protection.
So sad to say that!

If you have sensitive skin, or dry skin, this stuff might be wonderful for you! It has no harsh chemicals and it is very hydrating. It might also be good for a Tween venturing into the world of makeup and wanting a teeny bit of coverage and a nice moisturizer.
That's about all the good things I can say about this...

Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation in Naked (Colorless) - $19
You all know I love this product in the Nude color. It seriously lasts forever and it makes the most PERFECT nude lip!
So, I had to try this colorless one to see if it would be an awesome base for a red or pink lip!
When you put it on, it goes on like a clear chapstick.
It moisturizes and then you can feel it kind of settle in and become more matte, ready to take on the color and keep it there!
I tried this with all sorts of lip colors, but especially RED!
I am SO happy to say that this stuff really acted like a lip foundation and made my red lips STAY put!
They didn't bleed, budge, or smudge!
I didn't get that nasty inner lip ring from it either (You know what I'm talking about if you wear lip products).
It has no scent, no shine, no color, but it gives that lipstick a big ole hug and doesn't let go!
It also smooths any deep lip lines and makes my lips more plump and hydrated.
P.E.R.F.E.C.T.  for any lipstick or lip color!
I wear it on a daily basis with nude lips, pink lips, or red lips - ANYTHING!
Definitely worth the $19 in my book!

100% KISS Here!!

Have you had your eye on any of these products?
I hope I can help guide you through products that I think are worth the splurge or not!

I bought all of these products with my own you know I am giving you 100% honest opinions!

Coming up on my next KISS or DISS post...
- GlamGlow Masks (YouthMud & Supermud)
- GlamGlow Cleanser (SuperCleanse)
- Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation
- Benefit Boi-Ing Concealer
& Maybe more!!!!

Hair Headband

Heeeeeeey Guysssss!
It's that magical day again that only comes around ONCE a week......
It's time to celebrate the upcoming weekend with a *New* super cute and EASY Hairstyle!!!
Without further ado....
The Hair Headband!

Guys....How cute is this!??

And you won't believe how easy it is!!
All you need is:
1) Your own hair.
2) 2 Bobby Pins.

Just watch this quick tutorial!

Wasn't that simple!?

All you do is
1) Braid a small section of hair by your ear.
2) Wrap the braid over the top of your head to the other ear.
3) Secure with 2 Bobby Pins (One facing forward and one facing backward --- this makes sure they don't slip).

I know, right!??

You don't have to say it... I know... It's the easiest and cutest thing ever! I am so obsessed with this hairstyle!

I love that you can make the braid super skinny like I did, or thicker for a bolder look. You can even make it super messy for an undone "I didn't even try and I look this good" look!
You could even do more than one braid, or wrap one from each side to do a double headband!
The possibilities are endless with this style!

I'm in LOVE!!

Are you as obsessed with braids as I am!?

If you try this look I would LOVE to see it!
Please post your beautiful hair selfies on my Facebook Page!

Drugstore Cream Contour Tutorial

A word that sends many a woman running away from the makeup department.

Fear of looking like a clown. --- Fear of throwing down a lot of $$$ on products you won't ever use. --- Fear of spending too much time on your makeup.

But...It can be really simple, easy, AND affordable!!

I promise!

Let me show you how!

Products Used For Foundation and Contour:

Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (For Contour) Stick in 355 Coconut - $6.94
Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder in Translucent - $3.97
Rimmel London Bronzer in Sundance - $4.28
The Original BeautyBlender - $19.95

This is definitely not something I do every day.
But, when you have the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation Sticks, it makes it super easy and fast when you decide to make those cheekbones POP! You can literally just draw on where you want to highlight and contour!
Plus...These products are super affordable if you are just venturing out into the contour world!

Just remember the difference between highlighting and contouring:

Highlight where the light naturally hits -- The high points of your face (Lower half of Forehead, under eye area, top of cheekbones, bridge of nose, Cupid's Bow, Chin). You want to highlight what features you want people to notice!

Contour where you want to cast a shadow -- Under the cheekbones, Under the jaw, Around the top of your forehead/temples, Outside of your nose, under bottom lip). Contouring helps define and slim features.
The key to cream contouring is BLENDING!!!!

Seriously...Blend Blend BLEND!

And then blend some more!

You might think it's kind of pointless to draw on all that makeup, then blend it all out....But it really does help define certain facial features!

As you saw in the video, I contoured under my cheekbones, around the outside of my nose, my forehead, and my chin/bottom lip.
The reason I contour those places is to slim down my face (Cheeks/forehead), and define/slim my nose, and "plump" my bottom lip.

When I do contour, I always prime my face and put on foundation BEFORE I do my contouring. I like to have a nice blank canvas before I draw everything on!

Side Note: I used the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder and Bronzer to set my contour and highlight (If you were wondering why I used powder products on top of the cream). We don't want our hard work sliding off our face do we!?

Contouring is definitely a personal choice.
Whatever you feel like you want to slim or define...Contour it!
Whatever you love and want to show off...Highlight it!!
It really is that easy!!

I hope you found this video tutorial and blog post helpful on your road to becoming a contouring queen!
I am not a professional...but I do think this is a very easy and affordable way to try out some contouring and highlighting techniques!

Wrapped Side Pony

Hello Weekend!

Since it's Friday...You know what that means....

I have a NEW EASY HAIRDO for YOU!!!!!

The Wrapped Side Pony!!!!

How cute is this fun twist on a low pony tail???

It seriously and literally only takes 2 minutes start to finish! (Just watch the video tutorial below!)

I love this easy style because it keeps my hair off of my neck when it's super hot outside AND it looks cute too!!

So here's how to get this look:

Watch this video tutorial or read the step by step directions below!

1) tease your hair at the crown of your head.
2) brush the top to smooth it down, but still leave some volume.
3) pull your hair to the side of your head.
4) twist half of your hair (closest to your ear) backward, or away from the ear.
5) twist the back half forward (toward the ear).
6) secure with an elastic.
7) take one small section of hair from the bottom of the pony.
8) wrap it around the elastic (to hide it).
9) secure the hair underneath with a bobby pin.

So easy, right!??

Such an easy and perfect hairdo for the warmer months! Even for a beach day so it stays out of your face and off your neck!

If you do this look, please let me see it!! I would love for you to post a picture of it on my Facebook page!!

Thanks so much for reading and watching!

Sub Love

Who doesn't love getting a box of goodies every month??

More importantly....Who doesn't love getting a box of MAKEUP and BEAUTY goodies every month!?

This Girl DOES!!!

My AMAZING Best Friend Carissa got me my 1st subscription box service for my birthday in March.
She knew I had been DYING to try one and ordered a 3 month subscription to BoxyCharm Subscription box service.

It is seriously like getting a birthday gift (or gifts) every month!! How cool is that!???

Like me, she had done her beauty subscription box research and settled on BoxyCharm.

Why BoxyCharm you ask!??

Well...With BoxyCharm, you get 5 items in your box each month.
Now...4 of those 5 items are usually FULL SIZE ITEMS!!!

How crazy awesome right!??

A lot of other subscription boxes that I looked at gave maybe 1 or 2 full size items and the rest were samples. Plus they cost $10-$30 a month!

And guess how much BoxyCharm is!??

$21 a month!!!!!!

That is SUCH an amazing deal for the amount of full size, quality items you are getting!

This was my 1st Box that I received in March.

All TOP of the line, high quality beauty brands!
Can you pick out the only sample size in there?

It's the Oscar Blandi Travel Hair Spray! And it's still HUGE!

The best thing about BoxyCharm... is the amazing value that you get for only $21 a month!

This box contained:

Box total - $112

Did you see that!??
This box contained $112 worth of products!! HELLO!!! A..Maze....ING!

Box Review

Ofra Eyeliner in Navy - $13
If you are like me and love colored liners, then this brand is definitely worth checking out!
This is a wood pencil eye liner, so you will have to sharpen it... but it was actually quite creamy and smooth even though it was a pencil. (Wood Pencil Liners are my least favorite).

I found that the color payoff was nice. I didn't have to go over my eyes 100 times to get the blue to show up, so that was a PLUS!
Over all, this liner lasted all day without running and the pop of Navy was nice to try out! I would definitely buy this liner again and in other colors!

Previse Skincare Nutrify Tonic - $48
I had never heard of this skincare brand until it showed up in my box. As a self professed skin care junkie, this was definitely a huge deal to get in my 1st box!
I did a little research, and Previse is a relatively new high end skincare brand. They use natural ingredients in all their products and they offer "Skin Typing", which helps to diagnose what your skin concerns are and which products will be right for you.
I was thinking this was a serum of some kind, but when I opened it I realized it's more of a watery consistency....Hence the name...Tonic (In my excitement I didn't read it properly).
This tonic comes with a little eyedropper and you are suppose to drop 5 drops in your palm and then apply to your face 2-3 times a day.
I have been using 3 drops morning and night, and I definitely have seen some improvement in my skin!
I apply right after I have washed my face and before I put on my moisturizer.
My skin seems more moisturized and has a more even skin tone. YAY! I have even skipped my moisturizer some days because it seems to seal in the moisture and I didn't need extra lotion.
$48 is a little steep for one skincare item, but with only using 3 drops per application, this should last me for quite a while!
THANKS BoxyCharm!!!!

Oscar Blandi Travel Size Hairspray for Volume, Hold, and Shine - $11

Not too much to review's a good hairspray!
I was excited to have a good travel size hairspray to take on trips!
The only thing I don't really like about this one is the's a little heavy. It's not a bad smell, but it's has that "hairspray" kind of smell. I will still use it because it really does hold well and it's small so it's perfect for travel!
A great product over all! So glad to get this in my 1st box!

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Creme in Charmed - $24
If you have read my blog before, you know I am a HUGE Tarte fan!!!
I LOVE their Amazonian Clay Eye Liners, blushes, and their 4-in-1 Lights Camera Lashes Mascara!
So... when I saw this little baby in my box....I flipped!!!!
A full size Tarte LIPPIE!??
A serious score in my book!
I believe this color, aptly named "Charmed" for BoxyCharm, was a limited edition color. I haven't found it anywhere else except for the BoxyCharm Box, so that makes it even more exciting!
Loved this pretty pink color! Perfect for SPRING!
It's a crayon type lipstick and it has a somewhat sheer, but build-able wash of pink color. I love that I can do one quick swipe for some moisture and a hint of pink, or I can add a few more layers for more pink and shine.
Here is a hand swatch of the pretty charmed color!
A nice petal - nudish - springy pink right!?

Here's what it looks like ON!

Obsessed to say the least!!!! This one lippie alone is worth MORE than the WHOLE box!??
$24 Lippie > $21 BoxyCharm Box

That's some awesome makeup math there!

This lip creme has some awesome staying power too! I feel like it is kind of a lip stain because even after the shine wears off, the pink color still stayed on my lips! Even through lunch!
Definitely a new Spring FAVE now!
Since this color was only available through this box, I would definitely suggest any of the other Tarte LipSurgence colors (Hello ULTA)!

They are ALL so pretty!!
Go get one!

LVX Nail Polish in Mynt - $16
This color is EVERYTHING for spring!!!
I am SO in love with anything Mint Green!
When I saw this beauty in my box...Man...Be still my HEART!
Such a beautiful, fun nail color!
I was new to the LVX brand, but when I looked them up I found out that this luxury nail polish company is hot stuff!
They are 5-Free, which means all their lacquers are free of the 5 harsh and toxic chemicals that most nail polishes contain. They are also Vegan and Cruelty Free (No animal Testing).
I would say that's win win enough...but....That color though!!!
I tried this out the same day my box came in and you can tell this is a high quality polish (Think OPI). For $16 it better be awesome...and it was! I got at least 3-4 days of full wear before I got any chips. That's pretty amazing for polish on me!

Other LVX colors I'm crushing on...

 Seriously....Pale Yellow and Coral-y Pink!??

Seriously...Could this have been a BETTER 1st dip into the Sub Box club!??

I am already obsessed!

If you want to give the gift that keeps on giving like my BFF did for me...Check out BoxyCharm (HERE).

$21 per month and you always get over $100 worth of products each month! What a STEAL!!!
BoxyCharm also send coupons (They added a 20% off Tarte online purchase coupon in this box)  AND a cute little postcard that lists all the products you are getting with their price and a little description!

I think my fave items from this box were the Tarte Lip Creme, LVX Nail Polish, and Previse Skin Tonic!
I can't rave enough!

Would you like a sneak peek of my April Box that just arrived YESTERDAY!??

Yes...That's an EYESHADOW palette in there people!!!
20 Eyeshadows!!!!!!
For Reals!

I will fully review this box for you next month after I have had some time to use the products!

But I can tell you.....this box has a $137 VALUE!!!!

Still think $21 a month is too much!??

Just do the makeup math!

BoxyCharm is BOMB!

Will you be dipping your toe...or makeup brush in the subscription box pool!??

I highly recommend it!!!

Special thanks to my Best Friend for this amazing gift that keeps on giving!!
